The annual HIV Medical Update Conference is New Jersey's oldest annual HIV conference. The history of the HIV Medical Update COnference dates back to 1989 when little was known about treatment & prevention of HIV/AIDS. The needs of the conference have evolved over the last thirty years. HIV is now a modern chronic infection that, if medication is adhered to, infected individuals can now live almost as long as uninfected individuals. This year's conference will target primary care providers along with infectious disease specialists since primary care providers are increasingly involved in caring for people with HIV/AIDS. The conference will focus on the opioid crisis and treatment of the substance user, current ARVs and the development of future medication, transitioning between PEP and PrEP, and aging with HIV.
